MAKING GOD LAUGH

A friend said to me the other day: “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.”


I have thought about that comment over and over again.


Our main thought purpose in the morning is to decide our futures. We work hard at it.


Yet it is Jesus who said: “Take no thought for tomorrow.”


Jesus pointed to the birds, then comforted His followers by reminding them that heaven’s Father takes good care of them.


Jesus tried His best to instruct His grace children in how to live worry free; but our fallen natures are so bent on self-destruction, even if it is by slicing away a sliver at a time.


However, God has done His part. He has provided us with The Way. It is in Jesus’ life. It is in the Bible. It is in the indwelling Spirit of Jesus.


Therefore, when we return to those sources, we come upon the divine secret. It is planted in our hearts when we will it.


Let’s make God happy by trusting Him more—a minute at a time. That’s far better than baiting Him to laugh by toiling at planning our futures.


“Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5 counsels.


When we plan our futures, we lean on our own understanding. But God’s ways are far above our ways. His thoughts far above our thoughts. His plans far more precise than our plans.


Let Him do it—moment by moment, thought by thought.
